JACKY HAWTHORNE

Jacky Hawthorne The inspiration for my paintings comes from two sources. My training in ceramics and career as garden designer bring together the two aspects obvious in my still life paintings.

The stylised flowers and beautifully quirky jugs, bottles and cups are composed using traditional mathematical approaches to design to combine formality and informality. The paintings are only finished when the balance of these two aspects are achieved and the colours fuse together into a harmonious whole.

As a horticulturalist I love plants and the forms of flowers. For my paintings I take the flowers out of context and put them into a domestic setting. As a trained ceramicist I have always been fascinated by the shapes of pots, and these feature strongly throughout my work. I like to explore the relationship between the transitory nature of the cut plant in contrast to the permanent solidity of the pot.
